It's in my blood

A few months ago my husband pointed out this picture of my grandfather. It was taken in Panama during WWII (1945). Not only is he handsome as can be (middle of the bottom row) BUT ~ check out that PLANE. Should i ever incorporate the pin-up alone...i think i have my artwork!

But I thought you were kinda a feminist???

So as a programmer, a natural childbirth educator, a doula and photographer ~ i've had the opportunity to be called many a things. Some less appropriate for the blog-o-sphere than others ~ but there is always one word that keeps creeping up.

Feminist.

Most recently I was called a feminist during an art show where I combined my two loves (natural childbirth & photography) It honestly took me aback for a moment. Somehow because I encourage folks to research the birth of their child at least as much as they would their next car purchase ~ I was called a feminist.

Well lets take a look at the word.

Well duh then...who isn't?

I at LEAST want to be equal to men and in some area's I think its ok to shout from the rooftops how much better we are. When was the last time your husband gave birth or breastfed your child?

Those boobs are for more than selling cars ladies and frankly - i see nothing wrong with loving them for both purposes. I urge you to take pride in your body for what it is genetically capable of doing physically... AND what is is capable of doing to our partners.

But never forget. What it does for you.

Why Pin-Ups?

Boudoir photography is oh-so-very popular these days among blushing brides to be. And since i often do wedding photography I was looking for a way to incorporate something similar that would be truly ME. Granted I don't walk around in fishnets and high heels every day ~ but i'd like to :)

Old School pin-up photography is oh so very sexy to me. It shows no more than you see at any beach in the US ~ but always suggests far less innocence than is seen by the eye alone. I like to combine that feel ~ with simple backgrounds, minimal props ~ and keep YOU the focus of the photos. I combine it with modern day technology and a constant quest for knowledge of all things vintage.

Each and every client is unique and brings a multitude of different things to the set. Based on our conversations and yourself as a whole ~ i love to bring out the pin-up gal in all of us.

Welcome to Fishnets & Photos! The latest venture of JLA Photos.

I've started this blog as a temporary home for an entirely new and VERY HOT project of mine.

Once a quarter I aim to have "pin-up" days. I'll bring out the studio lighting ~ a million and one props, a little bubbly and even some mood music to get us started. Then its time to...well "work" doesn't seem like the right word, but i'm sure you know what i mean.

I am also available for private parties (think birthdays, bachelorette, etc) so be sure to e-mail me with any questions you may have!
